Building & Room Acoustics

Acoustic planning for spaces that have to work before construction locks the problems in. This covers studios, venues, homes, offices, and other working interiors — new work and renovations.

The work starts with how the space will actually be used: speech, performance, recording, concentration, or mixed use. From there the practice sets priorities — geometry, isolation, finishes, mechanical noise, and what can wait. The point is a clear order of operations, not a catalog of products.

Deliverables stay usable: drawings and notes a contractor or architect can act on, with reasons attached so the important items do not get value-engineered out first.

Assessment

Field measurement and diagnosis of existing buildings and rooms. Typical issues include sound transmission between spaces, excessive reverberation, poor speech conditions, and noise from HVAC or adjacent uses.

Work includes airborne and impact transmission paths, flanking, and background-noise measurements. Results are documented with recommended constructions or treatments, ranked by effect on the problem.

Assessment is used before a renovation, after a complaint, or when a space is not performing as designed.

Environmental Noise and Measurement

Outdoor and site noise studies for equipment, industrial sources, data centers, generators, traffic, and property-line compliance. Services include baseline surveys, documentation of existing levels, and review of barriers, setbacks, and operating conditions against local limits or project criteria.

Measurements support planning submittals, neighbor issues, and design of mitigation such as barrier walls. Findings are issued as measurement records and written recommendations.

Location recording

High-resolution recording on site: concert halls, churches, tracking rooms, and other rooms chosen for the music. The work is built for acoustic ensembles — chamber groups, jazz, and similar repertoire — and is intended for album, concert, and archival use.

Binaural sessions are recorded with a Neumann KU 100 to DSD 128, for headphone playback that places the listener in the hall. Multitrack sessions run eight channels at 96 kHz / 24-bit. Microphones include modified ribbon and hand-built condenser models, with an eight-channel transformer-isolated splitter available for live performance. Editing and noise reduction are completed in iZotope RX 10.
